Hanging Bridge at Tubungan

The Hanging Bridge at Tubungan

Last Friday my family along with my cousins and uncle and auntie went home to my mother’s hometown, Tubungan. Since my Lola died last October 29, 2006, I haven’t actually gone back to the place. Maybe because I’m still quite sad about my Lola’s passing.

But last Friday (October 12) was a holiday (Feast of the Ramadhan) so we all came back there. It was actually already 11am went we left, so it was way past noon when we arrived.

It’s always fun to go to Tubungan (my mother’s hometown). I guess it’s because we get to spend some time with the family and just let loose. And being close to nature adds a nice touch. See the hanging bridge? I say bridge because this is barely a bridge. It’s made of bamboo poles thrown across very rusty steel wires. The poles aren’t even tied to the wires. I must admit that I’m deathly afraid of crossing that bridge and I’ve done so only once, and that was when I was in my daredevil mode. Would you actually dare to cross this bridge?

This bridge connects two mountains together. However, if you’re like me who doesn’t want to die falling into oblivion, then you would be forced to cross the river (see under the bridge). This river isn’t too deep, usually just knee-high, so it isn’t as bad as crossing a bamboo bridge and hearing creaks every time you take a step.

Atop the Kamunsil Tree

Here is all of us atop the kamunsil tree. I’m not sure if the tree is dead (it sure looks like it) since most kamunsil trees actually look dead if they don’t have fruit. It sure does look that we’re having a lot of fun. And we are! We plan to go back to Tubungan for my Lola’s (grandmother) death anniversary on October 29th.

Stay tuned.

I’ve been in Ambarihon, Tubungan when i was in college many times with a loving family of my best friend til now (Jojo Tamayor). It was great to be in tubungan. I love to get some banana(mundo), love it.I missed Iloilo too & everything from there-(im in Dubai for almost 8yrs.) and i had once went home due to my work and i took 4 of my siblings too to work here.
well. i will come by march -april 08 and go to tubungan with my best friend family. I missed people of tubungan (am trying hard to speak proper karay-a.)..hmmmm…

I grew up in Bingawan town but i built my house near Lemery..nice to be back in the village of fresh air.

I dont know what is iloilo’s newest development by the way…so got some nice places /beaches to recommend where to go? i dnt like city too much…Preferred walking and hiking and meet friendly people.

Thanks for the chance to reply. Highly appreciated this option.

  4. if i am not mistaken the bamboo hanging bridge shown in the picture is where we crossed last Maundy Thursday 20 March 2008, we went to see the Bamboo pouring water in Brgy. Bacan believed to cure illnesses based from testimonial. Upon arrival in the that place, I took some photos, talking to other kababayan trying to find out scientific explanation.

on our way back home to Lanag Sur, my kids opted to cross the river instead as the were craving to swim for the first time in the river.
